Review: | Learning a new language is never easy, but this video strives to help non-Spanish speaking people become fluent by introducing them to the Spanish alphabet. The video begins by outlining the material to be covered, including pronunciation of words, changes in the alphabet, and the purpose of diacritical (accent) marks. The letters are introduced both visually and aurally. Three narrators convey the basic concepts: one speaks English, and the other two pronounce words and the sounds of the letters. Interaction is encouraged by providing relevant pauses between letter sounds and words or phrases representing that letter. The Spanish word is spoken with the English word in parenthesis along with a visual picture. Another unique feature is that different pronunciations of letters or words are discussed to include Spanish spoken in Spain, Argentina, and Mexico. Latin American/Spanish culture is represented throughout the video, and gives viewers an authentic ethnic representation. Teachers will enjoy the video because it provides definite points to pause the program for further instruction or review of the concepts presented. This is an excellent introductory way to teach beginning Spanish classes or to review concepts in more advanced Spanish courses.
