Review: | "Understanding Emotional Violence presents intense information and instruction on how to approach and manage emotional violence. The female narrator's compassionate tone creates an atmosphere of understanding and hope that is the message of this production. The introduction presents a child alone on screen while scenes of verbal and physical violence flash on and off at increasing speed, giving the impression of escalating violence. Then there is silence for a few seconds, and the narrator continues by introducing the contents that are shown in yellow letters on a black background. The use of black-and-white scenes and scenes that are depicted as if you are viewing a negative produces a disturbing and somber view of emotional violence. Equal treatment of male and female roles in emotional violence is presented in the various scenarios during and following each designated section. The actors are junior and senior high school age. The reenactments are realistic and relate to the situations that young adults might encounter in their own experiences. This clearly and logically organized presentation could be used for conflict resolution sessions either individually or in a group setting. Teacher or leader guidance would be appropriate because of the content of the video and the subject it is describing."
