"Clear definitions of essential terms and concepts used in composing, performing, and understanding music are offered in this short video. The succinct and pleasing narration introduces musical notations, rhythm, meter, pitch, intervals and keys. Each term is explained and supported with musical examples and footage of diverse young people performing different types of music. We see young orchestra members as well as glimpses of a mariachi band, street performers, and rappers among others. Terms used in conducting, instrument and voice families, and a short chronology of Western/European music history are also presented. This fine summary of the essentials will be most useful in a classroom situation where an instructor could pause the video and expand upon these complex concepts with more examples."
