Review: | "The video explores prescription and over-the-counter painkillers, some of the most easily attainable type of drugs. Ranging from Advil to morphine, painkillers are extremely addictive and can quickly turn deadly. Viewer are taken on a narrated tour of what painkillers are, how they are ingested, why they are dangerous and deadly, the physical and physiological signs of dependence, and how users can overcome he addiction and find alternatives to the drugs. The silent video playing as background packs a powerful punch. Especially good are the shots of prone bodies surrounded by pills and bottles. A shot of a girl tying off her arm to inject painkillers is also eye-opening. In another powerful segment, the narrator tells viewers that once individuals have become addicted to painkillers, their bodies may never get past the craving for the drug and it will always be an uphill battle to stay sober. After viewing this video, teens may think twice before getting high on painkillers." Elaine Black, Gwinnett County Public Library, Lawrenceville, GA Reviewed in School Library Journal June 2003 |
