Review: | "Teenagers who are 'coffeeholics,' overeaters, or those who remain in codependent relationships are just as much addicts as the stereotypes visualized haring needles in back alleys. This video suggests that no one is immune from addictions to drugs, food, or abusive relationships. The program begins by distinguishing between casual users and those who can't control their behavior. A female narrator defines addiction and outlines the symptoms, consequences, and treatment for each of the three areas. An addict can be determined by the physical and psychological symptoms of addiction - withdrawal and denial - and often suffers from low self-esteem and a desire to fit in. Low toned techno-music plays in the background as the narrator and onscreen writing presents information at a steady pace. Teenagers in mock situations depict bingeing and purging, cigarette smoking, and drug use. Both males and females are shown as victims of verbal and physical abuse. The program shows teens in non-threatening and friendly treatment and counseling situations. There is a fast stream of facts, and students would benefit from an accompanying outline for note taking. This straightforward video is suitable for junior and senior high school health and drug programs." Vicki Reutter, Cazenovia High School, NY Reviewed in School Library Journal
